“Sometimes people come into your life for a moment, a day, or a lifetime. It matters not the time they spent with you, but how they impacted your life in that time.”

Last year my teammate Meghan Creighton began the program Assisting Others and it made an everlasting impact on everyone around her:

“A year ago I decided to start a campaign called Assisting Others for my final season of basketball. I wanted to be able to give back and make a difference using the sport that I loved. Growing up my parents always instilled giving back and being selfless. They also always would remind my brothers and I that someone was always watching our actions and that is exactly what happened with Assisting Others. My teammate Kelsi Lidge came to me and asked if she could continue the Assisting Others campaign for the 2017-2018 season, after watching the impact it had last season. Kelsi is one of the most selfless people I know always putting others before herself so I cannot think of anyone better to continue the Assisting Others campaign. I am so honored to have Kelsi continue this campaign and cannot thank her enough for her efforts to continue Assisting Others.”

-Meghan Creighton

In honor of Meghan Creighton’s last eligible year at Drexel she wanted to do something to honor some amazing programs and people in her life. Through Meghan I have been able to meet and be a part of something special. I was inspired by what she had created and believed it was something that shouldn’t end after one year. With this in mind and her consent, I decided to continue the Assisting Others program. This season-long campaign will encourage donors to pledge a dollar amount for a rebound. For every rebound that I record this season that pledged amount of money will be donated to Evanfest. Evanfest is an organization in memory of Evan Brady that raises and donates money to assist families whose children are battling live threatening illnesses.

It was a very easy decision to continue honoring a legacy that is all about giving back. Giving back was something that was instilled in my heart and mind since I was child from my mother. She has always taught us to look out for other people and to put the needs of others first. I try to aspire to be selfless as often as I can and once I got the opportunity to continue this program, it was one I couldn’t pass up.

I want to thank Meghan Creighton for everything she is and allowing me to continue this program. I am in hopes that I can create at least half as much of change in others lives as she has done in mine.

***Update: Thank you to Aubree Brown for stepping up for the first game. I am now able to return to the court and can't wait to officially start the season and the program!
