Emily Isola: Still I Run Challenge

7.14.19 - the day I will run 13.1 miles for my badass angel! As I push myself physically to run this half marathon, I will do it for all those who have had to push themselves to get out of bed each morning, who have pushed themselves to smile through their depression, who have push themselves to take a deep breath through their anxiety attacks. Mental health is no longer a conversation that can be kept quiet. It is time to break the stigma and come together to overcome mental illnesses. I’m taking on the challenge of running a half marathon to raise money and awareness for mental health and I’d be honored to have you along for the journey. I’m inviting friends and family to pledge a donation for every mile I complete in my race. You can also make a one-time flat donation as well. Sharing this post and making yourself a safe haven for those who may be suffering is just as important. You can support me in this journey by telling the people around you that you are there for them no matter what. #Beethelight

Everyday I look down at the ruby heart ring I wear on my right hand. It belonged to my passionate, beautiful, fearless, and incredible baby cousin. Almost 7 months ago my family’s lives were changed forever, but in the name of our vibrant angel, Melissa Nicole, we held each other close, in pain and in sorrow, and promised to help others suffering from mental illness. Not a day goes by that I am not inspired by my wild baby cousin. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss her infinitely. Not a day goes by that I don’t think how I can help other families never know the loss my family has learned. I will run this half marathon, along side my family, for my family, for your family, for Melissa. This is only one of many steps on a long journey to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and start the necessary conversations to help those in need.

Your support will help benefit Still I Run, a non-profit community dedicated to bringing together running and mental health. The mission of Still I Run is to promote the benefits of running for mental health, defeat the BS stigma around mental health, and provide a safe community for people to share their stories. Having a mental health condition can feel very lonely and isolating, but Still I Run exists to let others know they aren’t alone.

Thank you for your support and generosity!
