Men's College Baseball Teams Swing Big to Fight Pediatric Cancer

Using the power of sport for social good, Dickinson and Swarthmore College Baseball teams launched the Hits Vs. Cancer Challenge and raised more than $5,600 for the Vs. Cancer Foundation powered by PLEDGE IT.

Founded in 2014, PLEDGE IT is an online fundraising platform that empowers teams and athletes to raise money based on their athletic performance. Fans can pledge any dollar amount for every touchdown, run or point scored to benefit their favorite cause (or team).

On April 2nd, Dickinson and Swarthmore College Baseball teams stepped onto the field together to fight against childhood cancer. Both teams used their rivalry to raise money for the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to saving the lives of children battling pediatric cancer. Fans had the opportunity to pledge a donation for every hit their favorite team recorded during the rivalry game.

In an epic showdown, Swarthmore was able to raise more money than Dickinson but the Red Devils ended up winning the game. With the help of 29 fans, Swarthmore raised $2,972. Swarthmore Baseball was able to record 8 hits and each hit was worth $371.50. Despite winning the game and recording more hits than Swarthmore, Dickinson was only able to raise $2,711 from 43 loyal fans. Dickinson Baseball was able to record 12 hits and each hit was worth $225.92.

The rivalry campaign fueled the teams' motivation to perform and their fans desire to support the cause. PLEDGE IT empowered the teams to tap into their community's competitive spirit and earn donations for a great cause by simply playing the game they love!
